The test specimen is loaded perpendicular to the surface of loading to represent the actual conditions of stacking. With plates closing together, pressure is incrementally increased until the test specimen breaks. Next, the tester measures the greatest force when the sample fails, also known as the Edge Crush Test (ECT) value.
